About SMET

Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust was formed in the year
1983 as a Public Charitable and Educational Trust under the
able guidance of its trustees Smt R Gomathi Radhakrishnan,
Thiru A N Radhakrishnan and Tmt. D. Meenakshi Ammal.

The Trust has established several educational institutions, namely Engineering College, Polytechnic College, Medical College, and Arts and Science College, and CBSE Schools, by name Mangadu Public School. The Trust started the Sri Muthukumaran Medical college Hospital and Research Institute, Chikkarayapuram, Near Mangadu, Chennai-600 069 from the academic year 2010-2011 with an annual intake of 150 students in MBBS Course with the approval of Medical Council of India and Central Government and affiliation to Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. Today the hospital with 1000 beds and the Medical College at Chikkarayapuram are recognized as outstanding institutions and have won the appreciation of medical experts and administrators alike from the State and the Central Governments.

Sri Muthukumaran Institute of Technology recognizes that no two students are alike, so your college education can't follow a "general education" path. That is why the SMIT Curriculum unique in higher education has no required subjects. The result is an education that reflects student’s priorities.

The Managing committee is responsible for making all major decisions to carry out the recommendations of the Governing Council and Technical Advisory Committee. The members of these bodies are eminent personalities possessing expertise and experience in technical education, industry, business and public services.

Simultaneously they continue to modernize their technical and engineering institutions so that the students can have the benefit of global technological inputs. Interaction between academia and the industry is an essential requirement to train and develop the technical manpower necessary to sustain and promote industrial and economic growth.

With increasing trends for expanding growth of industries and for foreign direct investment and facing tough competition , industries look up to institutions to solve their engineering problems. This can be achieved well only by bridging the gap between industry and the academic institute. They are concentrating on industry institution interaction as employers now look for technical manpower that is both creative and innovative. The students are required to be able to apply the newly acquired knowledge and skills and take up challenges in face of the current technological developments and information explosion. In view of all these, the industry academia collaboration receives greater importance.

The Role of the Research and Development cell is to enhance research and development activities that would enable SMIT to attain the status of a removed Intellectual corporation that fosters excellent research, development, sponsored projects, continuing education, consultancy, and industry-institute-interaction, and excellent teaching.

“Quality in Education" is their motto and no effort will be spared to achieve this aim. They also ensure that our Students go beyond their class room for an all around personality development. They strive for excellence in Engineering through a dedicated participatory work culture and are determined to be one of the best Engineering colleges in the country.

The colleges under Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust

have a well-structured administration system with the Management, Principal and Directors providing the necessary guidance for day to day running of the colleges.
